Project Partners

The Museum Ludwig is a lively place that aims to promote knowledge and creativity among a wide range of target groups.

There are a variety of ways to get involved as a partner for special projects related to art education for children, young people, and adults.

Our research activities—for example, the restoration of artworks—also include additional projects that can only be realized with the help of partnerships, such as the digitization of our photography collection with our partner Pixum.

Youth Council at Museum Ludwig

In the Museum Ludwig’s Youth Council, young people aged 14–17 can play an active role in the museum’s program development and organisation, and develop their own initiatives. The committee meets reguraly on a voluntary basis. The group gains a basic understanding of the museum, engages with the art and participates within a self-directed framework. The aim is thus to ensure that young people’s perspectives are permanently incorporated into and represented in the museum’s work.

Holiday program, Family tours, Traineeship

The new holiday program "Kunst für Kölsche Kids" starts in autumn 2023. The focus is on experimentation and discovering one's own creativity for the participating children and young people. Every day, from Monday to Friday, the participants learn a new artistic technique. With the generous support of Flossbach von Storch, eight weeks of free holiday programs for children and young people will be held every year for the next two years: four weeks in the summer holidays and two weeks each in the autumn and Easter holidays.

Flossbach von Storch's sponsorship also includes two monthly family tours, which are free of charge for all participants, as well as the financing of a two-year traineeship in the art education department.

The POP LAB: A Space for the Whole Family

In February 2015, the ART LAB opened as a space for visitors young and old at the Museum Ludwig. In 2017 it reopened under a new name with a new program. Since then, the POP LAB has been a place for families and children in particular to experiment, relax, and play together. Integrated with the museum’s large Pop Art collection, the POP LAB invites youngsters to playfully engage with this style of art and gain their own experiences with color and feeling.

The ART LAB and POP LAB were made possible thanks to generous support from GAG Immobilien AG. This partnership, which has existed since 2015, offers the museum the opportunity to redesign the space at regular intervals, each time with an emphasis on one of the museum’s focus areas. The collection offers a rich repertoire to draw from, with Surrealism, Pop Art, Picasso, Nouveau Réalisme, and contemporary art.

Kunst:Dialoge

Developed by young students for a young audience, the Kunst:Dialoge series offers an opportunity to engage in a dialogue about artists and their works. You can ask the students whatever you always wanted to know about art but didn’t dare to ask. Art history students from the Universities of Cologne, Bonn, and Düsseldorf are trained as art educators and are eager to respond to your questions and comments.

The Kunst:Dialoge team is on hand usually every Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the permanent collection or in the special exhibitions as well as at selected Late Night Thursday events.

We would like to thank the Gesellschaft für Moderne Kunst am Museum Ludwig for their support of the kunst:dialoge series.

Digitizing the Photography Collection

The Cologne-based company Pixum has been a partner of the Museum Ludwig since 2015. As part of this collaboration, Pixum has supported the digital cataloguing of the Museum Ludwig’s photography collection. Under an initial funding, 4,000 photographs from the 19th and early 20th centuries were digitized to make them permanently accessible to the public via https://museum-ludwig.kulturelles-erbe-koeln.de/. Since 2017, the systematic digitization of the photography collection right up to the present day has continued thanks to Pixum. Have you found your favourite picture yet?

The Study Room: Photography up close

Would you like to experience photographs up close? You can arrange to view originals in the Study Room by booking in advance at studienraummuseum-ludwig.de. Thanks to Pixum's support, you can search the database for your favourite image and view it in the Study Room, either alone or with friends. Are you interested in abstract photography from the early 20th century? Or historical jewellery featuring photographs? Or the earliest landscape photographs from the USA? Or documentary photography? There's no need to wait for the next exhibition – you can have works from the collection brought out for you to view in the tranquil surroundings of the Study Room. You only need to pay the standard museum admission fee. We look forward to seeing you!

Late Night Thursday

The Late Night Thursday events, which take place every first Thursday of the month, are among of the most popular days at the Museum Ludwig. With visitor-friendly extended opening hours until 10 p.m. and a varied program of events such as concerts, plays, and guided tours of the museum’s unique collection, it playfully combines various disciplines, makes art accessible, and sparks curiosity to learn more.

We would like to thank the Stiftung der Sparda-Bank West for supporting this popular and special series of events since 2012.

Many wonderful ideas are waiting to be realized! If you’re interested in supporting a particular project at the Museum Ludwig, please contact Lisa Schade by e-mail: lisa.schademuseum-ludwig.de or by telephone: 0221 221 31835.
