This year the Museum Ludwig is offering a digital program for the European Day of Conservation-Restoration on Sunday, October 11. The videos and radio interview on various aspects of conservation and restoration will be available on this website for one month.
"Humerusfraktur": details of the restoration of Duane Hanson’s hyperrealistic sculpture "Woman with a Purse"
The video "Humerusfraktur" (in German) details the restoration of Duane Hanson’s hyperrealistic sculpture "Woman with a Purse", which has suffered multiple accidents. The last was in 2003, when a group of students knocked the sculpture over, breaking one of its arms. Aline Jahn developed a concept for the restoration as her graduation thesis at the Technische Hochschule Köln, in which she pioneered the use of adhesives.
Installation of the work "Transport des Forces" by Fernand Léger
A second video shows how the large-scale painting "Transport des Forces", which Fernand Léger created for the 1937 World’s Fair in Paris, left Paris for the first time for the major Léger exhibition in Cologne in 2016 and was installed with great effort at the Museum Ludwig.
