Since February 2015, the ART LAB at the Museum Ludwig has opened its doors for visitors from all ages. It's a space dedicated especially to families and children, in which you can experiment, relax, play, and be creative together.
In the first year, the ART LAB is connected to our vast collection of Expressionist art and invites you to get to know this artistic period in a playful way.
The word “expressio" is latin for expression. The expressionists decided to use colours to express themselves. Thus their paintings do not resemble reality: a pig might be blue, a street green or the sky yellow. Also, many things in the pictures are outlined with a black line. Under the slogan Express yourself! you are warmly invited to conduct your own experiments. Allow yourself to become inspired by the works you see in the exhibition upstairs!
The large room en face of the Cologne Cathedral also comes with lots of space to sit down for a moment and a selected library for young visitors.
The inauguration of the ART LAB was made possible with the support of the Kunststiftung im Museum Ludwig.
The ART LAB is kindly supported by GAG Immobilien AG over a period of three years.
